A traditional Primary Rate Circuit is a physical  connection which dedicates channels to be used just for voice calls.  It is sold in 24 channel increments (23 for voice traffic, 1 for signaling).  If you fill up the PRI and need just one more voice channel – sorry, you have to buy an entire additional PRI circuit.

As you can imagine, doing this at multiple locations can be very costly.  SIP uses the same network as your data traffic so if you need more capacity, all you need to be sure of is that you have enough bandwidth to carry your voice and data.  If you do, just add more SIP traffic to it.

 3).  Most PBX’s now support SIP natively – no expensive line cards.

Newer PBXs come with SIP interfaces built right in.  The physical connection used is standard Ethernet so it eliminates the cost of expensive PRI line cards in your PBX.

4).  Better control and flexibility with SIP – great for disaster recovery
